She's at it again: Tea Party edition

Update: HCSO just confirmed in writing that the two other individuals with Janis Lane were Scott Brewster and Rob Chambers. Scott Brewster is the "Coalition Director" for the campaign. Mr. Chambers is a consultant for the Mississippi Baptist Christian Action Commission

Correction: The original post stated there were two women. HCSO said there two men and a woman as stated above. Pete Perry said there were three women.

It seems Central Mississippi Tea Party President Janis Lane cannot stay out of trouble.  Ms. Lane and two other women gained access to the Hinds County Circuit Clerk's office around 2:00 AM.  The Hinds County Sheriff's Office is investigating the invasion.

The women saw a little-used side door that was propped open.  They accidentally (you can't make this up) closed the door behind themselves and were thus locked in the building.  The ballot boxes were locked in the vault and were not compromised.  HCSO became aware of the invasion when a person notified deputies that they were locked in the building and could not leave.

Election Commissioners and poll workers left the building around 11:00 PM last night and did not return until after 8:00 AM today. The building and parking lot were vacant when the women arrived at the courthouse.

Ms. Lane was last seen "attacking Rankin-Madison District Attorney Michael Guest, "sarcastically" telling the Jackson Free Press women should not have the right to vote, and calling for the resignation of Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Joe Nosef.

Note: The Clarion-Ledger is working on this story as well.

Janis off her meds again?

But why was the side door open?

I'm beginning to think Chris McDaniel could coast in if all of his supporters went into lock down. His supporters are the only thing keeping Cochran in this thing.

When is the Tea Party going to bring out their white hoods? I'm willing to bet their next legaslative agenda is going to be the seperation of races. You know you have a problem when their go to write in candidate is Ross Barnett!!

Maybe instead of voter ID , women AND men should have to be certified as sane!

why in the world was a side door to the Hinds County Circuit Clerk's office open at 2 AM?

Is this something they normally do?

If there wasn't an election going on, is that side door left open then too? Need something from the clerk's office? No problem, side door is open so just come on it. Good grief.

Have no idea how one becomes the head of any Tea Party, er, chapter but at this point the Central Mississippi group should remove Janis. Better yet Janis should resign as the harm she does far exceeds any good.

Ironic given that the tea party wants less government and more power to the people. Kinda hard to think about reducing government and believing the people when the tea party executives continue to drain the law enforcement resources of the tri-county area.

Prosecute Lane. Throw the damn book at her. But you won't solve squat until y'all start paying attention and executing the basics. That starts with the security of the courthouse 24/7/365.

The brilliant Jimmie Gates of the C-L recapped it thusly:

"Sheriff's Department spokesman Othor Cain said today there was never a threat to any ballots or anything, all of those were already secured.

Cain said the Sheriff Department filled out a report on the incident, but there's no investigation or anything"

I'm certain McDaniel nor anyone on his staff have ever met the three women cat burglars or had ever been to the Hind's county courthouse. Never mind there will be pictures of them together on Facebook and at least one of them served as babysitter to the McDaniel kids. Just wait. Don't you wish they called 911 for someone to rescue them? I'm telling you better than anything on tv.

the door referenced is used to unload ballot boxes as they come in. normally it stays closed and can only be opened with an access card. they propped it open because the people delivering boxes had no card. someone screwed up and left it propped. once inside that door you are in a hallway of locked offices. the door in question does not allow entry into the circuit clerk office or any other locked office. its really not a big deal except to show how crazy some of these people are...

@1:23; good luck prosecuting someone for trespass for entering a public building with the door wide open. Here's your sign dumbass.

I don't blame these women for accessing this building. As many ballot box shenanigans as this state has, you'd think the media would have entered the building to see what was up. I sure hope they didn't take a snapshot of any democrat poll workers asleep in their room.

Anonymous said...

They walked in an open door and shut it behind them. They looked around for a clerk. Could not find anybody. They called on their cell phones for help to get out. A deputy came and let them out.

Wait a second. That can't be right. That's simple, succinct and perfectly reasonable. Also, there's no law broken. We've got to come up with a better story than that. Everyone knows the Tea Party is a bunch of rubes who stick their noses into politics where they don't belong. Surely we can make up something that will belittle these meddlers and discredit them. After all, we're smarter than they are, have more money than they do and don't like them. They need to back off from influencing matters that are on our turf.

I guess maybe one test for "are you a McDaniel voter or a Cochran voter?" goes like this:

It's 2:00 a.m., and you're outside the building where ballots are being counted and preserved on an election night. You are an officer of a political organization that supports a major candidate in that election. You see a side door left ajar and unattended. Do you go inside?

___ No, I don't have any authority or proper purpose to be in there. Maybe if I see a guard or a cop, I'll mention that door in case it was left open by mistake.

___ Hell yes! This is America, and my tax dollars paid for that door and the whole damn building! Who's to tell me I can't go inside, carrying my Glock proudly on my hip?

Micah Gober said...

Ok, who would leave the door open at the Hinds County Courthouse. Why would anyone be at the Hinds County Courthouse at 2am in the morning? Sounds like there was some inside planning. Sounds like someone was trying to set Janis Lane to get caught? Could Janis Lane be that stupid? Was she arrested??? If Janis Lane wasn't arrest why??? Byron York's piece
, on what Haley Barbour has in store for Mississippi in the coming "done deal" immgration reform executive order, appears in today's Hattiesburg-American. His comments are an affront as much to low- skilled black agricultural workers and construction workers, as it is to the university-educated middle class. Barbour says blacks are lazy and won't work in chicken-processing plants and accept the same wages as illegal "Spanish-speaking" workers. Our former back-slapping, cigar-chomping, bourbon-sipping, syrup-mouth former governor has just handed McDaniel a hot potato issue for which he can nail "gone foreign" Cochran and his hangers-on to the proverbial cross. So-called Immigration reform, so-called free trade treaties and proxy wars in the Middle East are draining the wealth of this country, putting at risk the country's health system. None of the candidates has addressed these issues.

I think the critical issue here is, WHY was she there at 2:00 A.M.????????

There has been no answer as to what her motivation was..............and this is the 2nd time THAT WE KNOW ABOUT, that a TP person has gone into a facility where they were not supposed to be (think Rose Cochran, and now the BALLOT COUNTING offices).

McDaniel has a problem, and it happens to be his supporters.......whom he will owe a LOT to if he gets elected. What will they demand......higher doses of prozac? Sadly, those who are drinking the TP Kool-Aid will make tons of excuses for this event, but will probably not answer any time in the near future, as to her motivation in the G. Gordon Liddy break-in at 2:00 a.m., into an empty building, with no cars in the parking lot.

Hope the press covers this -- because it is just ONE MORE EXAMPLE of TP Leadership. My mama always told me -- you are judged by the company you keep.

7:04 pm I take her word for that because I'm pretty sure if she and her cohorts are so dumb as to lock themselves in, they were too dumb to get past the key pad as they were obviously too dumb to get out!

I think some of the " outside" money paid Busby to make a phony message and set up the robos for it and I think the same money went to someone in the clerk's office to leave the door propped open. With poor dumb " Constitution", the promise of being " in" with the " big boys" was probably enough.

Gee, 3 taxpayers who have worked their behinds off on a campaign have the nerve to enter a door upon direction by a guard. They actually walked in, presumably on their legs. They closed the door instead of leaving it wide open. I don't know how many of you have ever worked on a campaign, but it is NOT uncommon to go to the placed - called a courthouse - where ballots are being collected, counted, or secured, to ask questions or check security. I've put in maybe 1/20th of the work these folks put in and have been to my local courthouse on several occasions late on election nights when there were ballot delays. It is a right of every citizen to do so as long as officials have not forbidden it. Then they had the colossal temerity to use a cell phone to call someone to let them out when the door locked automatically. Any other suggestions on how they might get out? Breaking window maybe - Maybe they could be punished appropriately by having "V" for Voter branded on their foreheads. The nasty attitude of many toward what they view as 'Tea Party' seems to ratchet up as membership increases, word gets out about initiatives, and people begin to research and think about issues instead of just pulling a lever as instructed. Just today, my poor ignorant self directed a voter how to access voting records of Senators. Perhaps this could be construed as slander, maybe breaking & entering as I used a computer of a friend, or maybe just good use of what I actually did learn in poli sci - although I could probably have learned just as much at a VoTec.

I worked Bush's second campaign and was sent to another state (swing state) on Election Day. We waited at the courthouse until they closed and we were told to go home, that there was no more information to be obtained that night. We left; there was no reason to stay if there was no more counting going on. This was a Presidential election and the state that gave Bush the win. No one would have considered entering that building, even we thought that tampering was going on; it would have been trespassing ( a crime) and really, really stupid.

I can think of no reasonable reason why would anyone stay and enter the courthouse once counting ceased. If they thought someone was going to tamper with the ballots, then they should have called the proper authorities. The fact that they didn't makes me think that THEY were trying to tamper with the ballots. I also find it hard to believe that a security guard told them to enter the building once it was closed when there were ballots inside. This makes about as much sense as breaking into St. Catherine's to take a picture of Mrs. Cochran. Makes me think the same people are involved in both events.

He loves Thad and has been on radio numerous times saying so. He decides to count ALL boxes save 4 at 11:00pm, which could potentially win you a monumental election? Would you not send troops over, even if from Hattiesburg, to check on what the hell was happening? I damn sure would.

And if ANY of you have ever worked an election, you know you can find yourself at the courthouse way after midnight. Move along.

I hope Thad, Gallo, Lange, and Henry run negative about this for the next 2 weeks. It will make the runoff much easier.

It's adorable how the Tea Party always talks about Jesus, nonstop, but this is the way they behave. When politics and religion mix, both are destroyed.

I'm no big fan of Cochran, but McDaniels would be a huge embarrassment to our state. When is this state going to wise up, look at the horrible results that decades of voting this way have gotten us, and quit electing these clowns? There's nothing funnier than a Mississippi tea partier. We have one of the lowest tax rates in the country, and we take in over $2 from the fed for every dollar we spend. Being a TEA Partier in Mississippi is like living in your parents' house and slamming the door to your bedroom and screaming you hate them.

Dixie,

Then obviously you have never been involved with working elections. The courthouse closes but election commission still works through the night. Boxes are dropped off at back doors. Front doors are locked to prevent folks not related to the election from entering. I guarantee you people were calling Pete Perry to see what was going on, and he wasn't answering the phone.

You people have it in your mind that the courthouse was abandoned, all lights off, and these three plotted to enter. The reality is all the lights are on and the election commissioner Pete "Thad lovin" Perry won't return phone calls. We're it me, I'd enter.

Pete said "I was getting out of my car when I got a call from Janis". Oh really? Coming from where? It's obvious he was JUST AT the courthouse because he lives in hinds.

I love gallo this morning! Chris may win by 10% if Gallo keeps going the way he is. Hopefully JT will continue the barrage.

"What are they doing there at 2:00am?" Lol. That's a question from someone who hasn't a clue about how long it can take to finalize elections.

At 8:30;

I have worked elections. At some time, they stop counting, seal up the ballot boxes and lock the doors with the plan to resume counting the next day. In this case, that was 11:30 Tuesday. I don't know what elections you have worked where, as you allege, a sole election commissioner stays in the locked building alone with the ballots. The building was locked and everyone left. There is no evidence that anyone was in the courthouse until 2:00 Wednesday morning when the Three Stooges entered the courthouse. Pete Perry was not there, the Sheriff's report say even their security had left by that time. Stop making things up.

Anonymous said...

502 explaineded why the door was open.! PERIOD! is no conspiracy theory-that is ridiculous. your watching too many reruns of X-files. the responsibility lies within the court house. they should have secured the door and communicated it with security. however these folks were not trespassing it is public government property hello??? but if it is true that they left the door open for deliveries then it should have been the responsibility of the court house staff to have a staff member cover the shift for the deliveries. I am NOT a tea party favorite however we need to be open and rational----these were just three people probably trying to get updates on an exciting tight campaign. it is not unusual to be at the court house until the wee hours of the morning on campaigns such as this. so turn off your Scifi tv and quit stirring s***.

I am 5:02. after that post I saw TV coverage and realized its a secure door on the WEST end. The door I thought was in issue is on the east end.

The west end door is clearly marked as not a public entrance and a access card is required. I use it everyday. However, lately, the door doesn't completely shut on its own and I have both entered and exited several times without using my access card, but making certain it seals after me. So, I buy it that they found the door "propped" open, but its clearly for use by authorized personnel only. The only public entrance to that court house is the front door on Pascagoula street. They were near the sally port for the jail where civilians rarely venture.

Anonymous said...

1:30 again, there is a "public" entrance on the east side across the street from the Chancery building, but you can't open the door, you have to be allowed in because an access card is still required.

Anonymous said...

Kudos to June 4 @ 7:04. Im willing to bet you the door wasnt open and they gained entry by some unlawful method. I would expect them or any other criminal to say the door was open. Even if we entertain them in believing that the door was open, at 2 a.m. why in their right mind would enter a courthouse the night after an election and then lock yourself in? (someone with bad/unlawful intentions) Voter I.D. was not meant to fix these types of situations. Im wondering how many other times had they done this and where?

Anonymous said...

Who paid off whom? Why is the Hinds County break-in being dropped/covered up? This is appalling.

Anonymous said...

Damn. Not a problem with going into the courthouse - thru an entrance marked for authorized personnel only. At 1 oclock in the morning.

Think I'll go down there tonight and see what looks interesting since that wouldn't break any laws. And with all the high sheriff's folks being with the Blues Brothers and Dan they won't be around anyway. But I'll remember to prop open the door so that I can get out!

Anonymous said...

Well, if it is ok to be in there after five, why do they have locks on the doors? Evidently Jon Lewis has convinced his buddy Tyrone that he needed to drop this so that Jon's boys that he sent over to the courthouse don't get into trouble.

Tyrone, you got some 'splaining' to do here. No investigation. No harm, no foul. How the hell do you think people in Hinds County think about your being in charge of the courthouse is now?

Yes, you have no security. Your security cameras don't work. Some crook is claiming that they gained entrance through a 'propped open' door. The candidate says your guys let them in - you say they didn't but it would have been ok if they did.

This b/s by the HCSO is almost as terrible as the crap by the McDaniel bunch of bozos.

Anonymous said...

5:04, June 4 - you don't know what the hell you are talking about. But just like the rest of the folks in your campaign office (and the TP nutjobs) you try to make up facts to fit your claim.

The 'door' is not the two glass doors that are opened to bring in ballot boxes. They were locked - although being glass you could still see inside and know that there wasn't anybody there!) The supposed propped open door is a back entrance behind some mechanical equipment and a dumpster. It is not a public entrance at all.

But thanks for playing. You make the evening interesting to see how stupid some of you apologists can be. Never believe anything done by 'friends' could be wrong - there is always a cover story to spread.

Guess you should have gotten with the three cat burglaries and gotton your story straight with theirs. Except, oooops. They were inside with nothing to do for a couple of hours, and they couldn't get their story straight. So adding a fourth would have really made it difficult.

Anonymous said...

5:02, and your next couple of posts. They didn't 'walk into an open door'. They wondered around the outside of a public building at 2 oclock in the morning. Found a door that they claim wasn't closed good - it wasn't an open door - and went into the building where nobody was but there were election ballots from the previous day's close election. They were campaign staff and supporters. There is a reason that election materials stay locked up and sealed - to keep folks from stealing an election.

So, in your mind it is ok for them to enter a door they claimed they accidently found open, in the middle of the night, and hang around by themselves with ballot bags everywhere. Guess that sign on the door that says "authorized personnel only" and 'no entrance without an access card' doesn't apply to these folks. Glad to know they are for good constitutional government!

And now that Tyrone has said it is ok, guess everyone can just go into the courthouse whenever they want to - all they have to do is to lie about how they gained entrance and what they didn't do.

I would suggest though, that next time they ought to coordinate their lies - at least get smart about doing something dumb.

Kamikaze will sing his new hit, “How I sold out to da Man.” Robbie Bell again performs: “Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be Bells” and “Any friend of Ed Peters is a friend of mine”. After the show, Ms. Bell will autograph copies of her mug shot photos. In a salute to “Dancing with the Stars”, Ms. Bell and Hinds County District Attorney Robert Smith will dance the Wango Tango.

Wrestling returns, except this time it will be a Battle Royal with Othor Cain, Ben Allen, Kim Wade, Haley Fisackerly, Alan Lange, and “Big Cat” Donna Ladd all in the ring at the same time. The Battle Royal will be in a steel cage, no time limit, no referee, and the losers must leave town. Marshand Crisler will be the honorary referee (as it gives him a title without actually having to do anything).

Meet KIM Waaaaaade at the Entergy Tent. For five pesos, Kim will sell you a chance to win a deed to a crack house on Ridgeway Street stuffed in the Howard Industries pinata. Don't worry if the pinata is beaten to shreds, as Mr. Wade has Jose, Emmanuel, and Carlos, all illegal immigrants, available as replacements for the it. Upon leaving the Entergy tent, fig leaves will be available in case Entergy literally takes everything you have as part of its Trollfest ticket price adjustment charge.

Donna Ladd of The Jackson Free Press will give several classes on learning how to write. Smearing, writing without factchecking, and reporting only one side of a story will be covered. A donation to pay their taxes will be accepted and she will be signing copies of their former federal tax liens. Ms. Ladd will give a dramatic reading of her two award-winning essays (They received The Jackson Free Press "Best Of" awards.) "Why everything is always about me" and "Why I cover murders better than anyone else in Jackson".

In the spirit of helping those who are less fortunate, Trollfest '09 adopts a cause for which a portion of the proceeds and donations will be donated: Keeping Frank Melton in his home. The “Keep Frank Melton From Being Homeless” booth will sell chances for five dollars to pin the tail on the jackass. John Reeves has graciously volunteered to be the jackass for this honorable excursion into saving Frank's ass. What's an ass between two friends after all? If Mr. Reeves is unable to um, perform, Speaker Billy McCoy has also volunteered as when the word “jackass” was mentioned he immediately ran as fast as he could to sign up.

In order to help clean up the legal profession, Adam Kilgore of the Mississippi Bar will be giving away free, round-trip plane tickets to the North Pole where they keep their bar complaint forms (which are NOT available online). If you don't want to go to the North Pole, you can enjoy Brant Brantley's (of the Mississippi Commission on Judicial Performance) free guided tours of the quicksand field over by High Street where all complaints against judges disappear. If for some reason you are unable to control yourself, never fear; Judge Houston Patton will operate his jail where no lawyers are needed or allowed as you just sit there for minutes... hours.... months...years until he decides he is tired of you sitting in his jail. Do not think Judge Patton is a bad judge however as he plans to serve free Mad Dog 20/20 to all inmates.

Trollfest '09 is a pet-friendly event as well. Feel free to bring your dog with you and do not worry if your pet gets hungry, as employees of the Jackson Zoo will be on hand to provide some of their animals as food when it gets to be feeding time for your little loved one.

Relax at the Fox News Tent. Since there are only three blonde reporters in Jackson (being blonde is a requirement for working at Fox News), Megan and Kathryn from WAPT and Wendy from WLBT will be on loan to Fox. To gain admittance to the VIP section, bring either your Republican Party ID card or a Rebel Flag. Bringing both and a torn-up Obama yard sign will entitle you to free drinks served by Megan, Wendy, and Kathryn. Get your tickets now. Since this is an event for trolls, no ID is required. Just bring the hate. Bring the family, Trollfest '09 is for EVERYONE!!!

This is definitely a Beaver production.
