Austin Frazier and Spencer Copeland filed motions to continue their respective trials last week in federal court. A federal grand jury indicted Claiborne Frazier, Austin Frazier, and C.E. Frazier, Jr. in December for conspiracy to commit bank fraud. The grand jury also indicted the Fraziers and Spencer Copeland for conspiracy to commit money laundering. The defendants are scheduled to go to trial on February 5. The motions argued since there were over 9,000 documents in the discovery disc to review, there was no way they could prepare for a trial on that date. The motions also state the government will not oppose the continuance. A pretrial Conference is set for January 22, 2013 at 9:00 AM in Courtroom 5A (Jackson) before District Judge Daniel P. Jordan III.
Editorial note: No surprise here. Such a delay was to be expected when Judge Keith Ball set the date in December. This case will probably go to trial this year.
